About the Event

The United Strings of Color Intermediate group will present a Black History event on February 10, 2024 in the Cary Arts Center Theatre that retells two stories. The program will include a folktale from the Yoruba culture of Africa and an American story that imagines how “Lift Every Voice and Sing” might have inspired families through history as they navigated life in the United States. The Yoruba folktale features original music by local composer, Elmer Gibson and the story “Sing A Song” by local author, Kelly Starling Lyons, uses the music of the “black national anthem”, Lift Every Voice.

Tickets are $5 for adults and free for PreK-12 children. They may be purchased online or at The Cary Movie Theatre box office at 122 E Chatham Street without added fees. (919-462-3051)
